MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 29, 2008)--The West Virginia Illusion will continue their search for their first win in franchise history when they host the Carolina RailHawks, fellow W-League débutantes, at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Last time out, West Virginia held first-place Atlanta scoreless for the first 34 minutes before falling, 5-0. Marisa Kanela had two shots and Megan Jessee seven saves for the Illusion (0-3-0), who are in eighth place in the nine-team Atlantic Division.
Head coach Joe Dorini also announced the addition of forward Sydney Metheny to the Illusion roster this week. Metheny, who just completed her freshman year at West Virginia University, will temporarily take the roster spot of fellow Mountaineer Nicole Mailloux, who is on duty with the Canadian Under-20 national team.
“We needed another attacking threat to help us offensively,” said Dorini.
The RailHawks (2-1-1) are currently in fourth place in the division with a win and a tie against the Carolina Dynamo, a win over Richmond Kickers Destiny, and a loss to Atlanta.
Lindsay Vera leads the attack with one goal and 14 shots on the season; United States international Casey Nogueira has a goal and an assist, but hasn’t appeared since the season opener, a 2-0 win over the Dynamo.
Former UNC-Chapel Hill goalkeeper Anna Rodenbough has appeared in three matches, posting two shutouts.
“It’ll be a difficult game, and I think they have a lot of talent on their roster, and it should prove to be a very interesting match-up. We’re looking for our first win this weekend,” said Dorini.
It’s also College Night at Duvall-Rosier Field. Students, who are encouraged to tailgate in the parking lot nearest to the stadium, will be admitted free with a college ID and have the opportunity to take part in various contests at halftime. Adult tickets are $5; youth will be admitted for $3.
