Kickers Boot Illusion; Super 20s Win

RICHMOND, Va. (June 28, 2008)--The Richmond Kickers Destiny (2-7-0) scored twice in each half, led by two goals from Dunia Susi, to dispose of the West Virginia Illusion, 4-0, at Sports Backers Stadium. Megan Mischler had three shots in a losing effort for the Illusion (1-9-0).

Kristin Stannerd opened scoring for the Destiny in the 12th minute, taking a pass from Emma Delves and driving it far post with her right foot from 20 yards out.

Illusion goalkeeper Megan Jessee kept it at 1-0 with a great sprawling save in the 19th minute on a shot from Dunia Susi.

A pair of chance came West Virginia’s way in the 29th minute; Megan Mischler’s cross from the left side was nearly deflected for an own goal by a Destiny defender, then Marisa Kanela’s subsequent corner kick was a split-second away from connecting with Mischler’s near post run.

Susi made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute, latching on to a Sarah Curtis through ball. Jessee made an initial diving deflection at the top of the box, but the ball knuckled into the net.

Mischler got the first good chance of the second half, whistling a shot high from the left edge of the box and had another shot soar high and wide in the 58th minute.

Melissa Bigg got a look on a breakway in the 78th minute but shot high.

Susi picked up her second goal off of a great give-and-go with substitute Claire Zimmeck in the 80th minute.

The floodgates officially opened in the 82nd minute when Hallie Rodgers tallied off of a second Zimmeck assist.

In other action today, the Illusion Super-20 team picked up its second straight win, winning on the road against the Fredericksburg Gunners, 2-1. Miko Alley scored off of a Kaitlin Parsons corner kick in the 10th minute and Sarah Bizanovich buried a free kick from 35 yards out in the 64th minute.

The Gunners pulled within one in the 70th minute and would have had a draw were it not for the late-game heroics of Illusion defender Molly Delk, who headed the ball off the line in the final minutes.

The Illusion Super-20 team will play Northern Virginia in Fredericksburg tomorrow.

After an off week, the Illusion senior team will return to Fairmont for their final two home games of the year against the Richmond Kickers Destiny on July 11 and Hampton Roads Piranhas on July 12. Both are 7:30 p.m. kickoffs at Duvall-Rosier Field.
